Ressence Type 9 IKE

Ancient Craft. Futuristic Canvas.

Ressence and Terumasa Ikeda blend old-world techniques with a sci-fi twist in the Type 9 IKE. Limited to just 8 pieces, this watch is more than a timepiece—it's a conversation between past and future.

The Type 9 IKE uses Ressence's minimalist design as a backdrop for Ikeda's intricate work. Layers of lacquer and mother-of-pearl create a dial that feels like it belongs in another galaxy. The rotating, convex display adds to the effect, making it feel less like a watch and more like an artifact from a distant civilization.

Benoît Mintiens, Ressence's founder, saw something special in Ikeda's art—a futuristic style rooted in ancient craft. The collaboration turns the ROCS display into an artistic language of its own. It's not just about applying art to a watch; it's about integrating it into the mechanics.

Ikeda's process is meticulous. Working from Kanazawa, he combines traditional urushi lacquer with raden techniques to create something that feels both historical and ahead of its time. The challenge? Attaching fragile mother-of-pearl to the curved surface of the dial without breaking it.

The technical side doesn't disappoint either. A polished Grade 5 titanium case with DLC coating houses the Swiss automatic ROCS 9 movement. It's splash-resistant and features a domed sapphire crystal. Functions are straightforward: hours and minutes, driven by a module with 20 gears and four ball bearings.

Limited to eight pieces, each priced at 32,000 Swiss Francs. You’ll know if it’s for you.
